North East Governors Fact-Finding Committee on the Mambilla Power project, visited the Chairman of Senate Committee on Local Content, Sen Teslim Folarin at the National Assembly.
The delegation included representatives of governors from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States. The delegation aims to unravel the delay in the execution of the Mambilla Hydro power project.
Addressing the delegation, the Senate Local Content Chairman expressed his disappointment at the absence of funds for the project in the 2021 Appropriation Law.
Beyond the Pre- Commencement Activity (PCA) Funds, the Federal Govt needs to match its commitment to the project with funds.
With the rising rate of the dollar, the cost of delivering the project will rise with every passing day. The initial cost of $5.7bn no longer looks possible.
He welcomed the commitment and interest of the North East governors in what is a National Project.
