The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has allegedly filed a criminal case against a chieftain and leader of factional People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State for defamation of character.
This paper reliably gathered that Engr. Makinde, has instructed his lawyer, Kunle Kalejaye, SAN & Co to sue Mr. Ashipa Ismaila on a particular social media post.
The suit is titled Defamatory Public Facebook Post About Engineer Seyi Makinde Re: Facebook Post, “Vindictive GSM, Dated 5/10/21.
Calls and text messages to confirm if the accused chieftain has been served with court papers were not responded to.
The State Affairs NG further contacted Ashipa’s political associates but they feigned ignorance of the order from the governor.
According to a factional PDP chieftain who does not want his names in print, ‘If the story comes to be true, Governor Makinde could be the second governor of Oyo state to react to personal Facebook opinion pages. Recall that sometimes in 2015, Adeoye Adekola and Akeem Olatunji, both of the Accord Party, were also charged for libel based on their Facebook posts”.
“Much as we are against the abuse of cyberspace by online media, I am of the opinion that political matter, especially amongst members of same party, be settled politically”.
“Engr. Makinde is seen by many online media as a lover of social media, which we believe contributed immensely to his election and administration”.
He warned that clamping down or muzzling Ashipa Ismaila could turn a whirlwind that would blow no good wind.
