The ancient Akesan market, also known as Oja Oba, located at the centre of the town and few metres to the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, was razed by fire in the wee hours of Sunday, January 5 2020, consuming all shops and goods worth over N20 billion.
Political functionaries from both the ruling PDP and the main opposition, APC as well as stakeholders rose up to rescue the victims.

Minister Sunday Dare didn’t only donate relief materials but also contributed millions of naira.
Engr. Joseph Tegbe contributed millions of naira.
Chief Adelabu gave soft loans to the victims
H.E Governor Seyi Makinde-led OYSG also voted money for rebuilding of the Akesan Market.

Today’s Official Commissioning ought to be jointly done by both the ruling PDP and the main opposition party, APC. Alas, Governor Seyi Makinde wants to take the credit alone.
I would not be surprised if Governor Seyi Makinde fails to acknowledge the significance contributions of the aforementioned stakeholders.
