A socio-economic group in Oyo state, Grassroots For Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo has petitioned the Inspector General of Police to reopen murder case against controversial Ibadan-based radio present, Oriyomi Hamzat.
The Group recalled how the police on Tuesday August 3 2017 arraigned Mr Oriyomi Hamzat, before Magistrate A. A. Adebisi of the Oyo State Magistrate court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan over allegation of murdering a 17-year old boy.
Hamzat was docked alongside four others; Idowu Ibrahim, Mohammed Bashir, Taiwo olaronke and Yusuff Toyeeb Ajisafe.
The five suspects were arraigned at the Magistrate Court 3 on a two-count c‎harge bordering on conspiracy and murder.
Hamzat was arrested by the State’s police command after the body of the boy was found in his car. The deceased was an orphan being raised in an unregistered orphanage home, allegedly belonging to the suspect.
The prosecutor, Sunday Fatola, told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit murder.
Mr. Fatola alleged that the defendants unlawfully caused the death of one Peter, 17, by inflicting an injury on his head and body.
He said Peter, who had been an inmate at a home owned by the Make a Future Alive Initiative, an NGO owned by Mr. Hamzat, was found dead at the home.
Mr. Fatola said the alleged offences were committed on July 21 at about 4. a.m. at the home at Oremeji Agugu, Ibadan.
He said the offences contravened Sections 324 and 316 and were punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate A.A. Adebisi, after the pleas were taken, ordered the defendants to be remanded in Agodi Prison pending the legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned the case till September 5, 2017.
The petition, which was sighted by our correspondent, was signed by the Convener of Grassroots For Itesiwaju Ipinle, Dr. Bello Razaq.
