Let it be said and kept on record that before Governor Makinde and his agents conclude their free fall impunity and political crucifixion of his deputy in the name of impeachment by 9am on Monday, 18th July, 2022, let it be said and known that the people of the pacesetter state are aware.
Not minding the hire-purchase judgement of the State High Court made public during week, the deputy governor’s legal team swiftly approached the Court of Appeal and the Oyo Judiciary was properly notified, but interestingly the Oyo CJ constituted the 7-man panel to investigate the deputy governor of the allegations leveled against him. The panel gave the deputy governor an invitation to appear before it, an invitation which was delivered 15 minutes before the sitting time stated in the invitation. As if that is not enough, in an unbelievable manner that portrays desperation and cowardliness, the panel is right now in the House of Chiefs, the same building and hallowed chamber where Awolowo and other founding fathers sat, courted and propelled the democracy we enjoy today and in which they are hell bent to destroy. Makinde’s 7-man panel is there having plenary on a Saturday, with an imbecile of a highly doctored witness who was also a beneficiary of Olaniyan’s philanthropic goodwill.
This is an interesting time in the political history of the state. The report that the panel will submit to the CJ and the House of Assembly is already ready and the illegal sitting is just to fulfill righteousness. If not,how does one explain the harassment and intimidation of the legal team that went on behalf of the deputy governor and the mindless refusal of the panel to receive correspondences to be submitted in the interest of the deputy governor? Never in the history of Oyo state have we witnessed impunity taken this far.
The interesting thing is, if they expect Olaniyan to react with violence, they will be disappointed. He is at peace with self, the people and his conscience. He has said it a million times that he allows Allah to decide his actions and directions.
We will however remind those who are excited and induced to play any role in this impunity that we all are pages in the history book of the pacesetter state. We call on leaders of thought and people of goodwill to call the powers that be to order and let the machineries tow the path of honour and due process.
