The Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the governor of the state, Seyi Makinde to consider his resignation as only option to safe his face from his involvement in many fraud perpetrated in his government.
The party wondered despite many public outcry over billions of naira contract awarded to the chairman of the Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, Makinde again awarded another huge contract to him.
APC in a statement issued by its State Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite said Seyi Makinde-led administration has violated Oyo State procurement laws in the award of notebooks production contracts worth N988 million to Oriyomi Hamzat and cronies.
The statement reads; It is shocking that despite the hue and cry that greeted the initial Dataphyte revelation of the Seyi Makinde-led administration’s violation of Oyo State procurement laws in the award of notebooks production contracts worth N988 million to Oriyomi Hamzat and cronies, the same administration will proceed to deliver another slap on the face of the good people of Oyo State by repeating the same shameless wickedness in the award of another M694m notebook contract to the same set of companies.
“It has become public knowledge that Oriyomi Hamzat and all his media platforms is an unofficial extension of Seyi Makinde’s image laundering machinery, but this brazen payment for his services by means of the commonwealth of the good people of Oyo State via inflated contracts is hereby condemned and must be so condemned by all well meaning people of the state.
“For this amount diversion from funds meant for education in the state to be perpetuated at a time when the state’s educational system is so poorly funded that examination questions are being written on chalkboards, continuous assessment instruments are being rationed and many educational infrastructures are sorely lacking is nothing short of wicked disregard for the future of our school children and an absolute lack of respect for the sensibilities of the good people of Oyo State.
“As we have always maintained, the messianic image that the PDP-led administration in the state proclaims does not conform with Governor Makinde’s fractured integrity. Thus, it came as a little surprise that the distribution of exercise books to primary and secondary schools is another ruse for laundering public funds in order to fraudulently enrich the governor’s long-standing cronies.
“However, it is worrisome that all ministries and agencies of the state have become susceptible to shady deals. Governor Makinde’s transactional conception of governance has lent a fertile ground for corruption to thrive in all sectors. The governor views leadership as a meal ticket with the belief that political relationships can be better managed by dispensing public resources to associates.
“Unfortunately, Oyo state is now mired in huge debt and gross mismanagement of resources because it is governed by those whose primary goal is to accumulate wealth at the expense of the state’s economic growth and development. What is left of an administration that prioritizes greed over responsible leadership and uses one of the state’s most vital sectors as a conduit for the privatization of public funds?”
