Less than 12 hours after the opposition All Progressives Congress, (APC), petitioned the inspector general of police, Usman Alkali Baba, over alleged attempted murder, arson and wilful destruction of properties perpetrated by the chairman of the disciplinary committee of the Park Management System (PMS), Mukaila Lamidi, also known as ‘Auxiliary’ and his gang, the party’s candidate in Ibadan North East constituency 2, Adekunle Yakub Adeyemi, escaped death by luck.
Adeyemi who was returning from a consultative tour Thursday evening was attacked by men alleged to be working for Auxiliary, who rained bullets on his campaign office around NTA junction, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, after which they vandalized billboards and posters.
A visibly shaken Kunle Facebook, as he is widely called, told journalists that “this would be the second time I would be attacked. Mukaila Lamidi once met me here and warned me sternly about my APC membership. Then, I petitioned the CP, Area Commander and the DSS.
“We had thought the petition would stop Auxiliary and his men, but that of yesterday was shocking. We had barely arrived when we first heard the sounds of machetes and other dangerous objects. And as we were trying to check what was happening, we heard gunshots. So we ran for cover. We just thank God we were not killed. Elections should not be about blood. They are the ones in power. They shouldn’t be the one attacking opposition members since they are sure of victory at the poll.
“I have decided to tell the press to know who to take responsible if anything happens to me or any of our persons. The attack was shocking and uncalled for. We have been going on with our activities without violence,” he added.
Only last Saturday, while returning from a public function in Ife, two-term house of representative member, Akeem Adeyemi and his team were attacked by suspected men of the transport union leader around Alakia area of Ibadan.
Unknown to Oyo APC, its petition through its secretary, Tajudeen Olanite, to the IG, with copies made available to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Zone 11, Osogbo), Oyo State Commissioner of Police (Eleyele, Ibadan) and the Area Commander (Iwo Road, Ibadan) respectively, wouldn’t stop Auxiliary’s attack on its members.
In the petition, Oyo State APC hinted that its members and properties have become subjects of repeated attacks and destruction by Auxiliary and his members of PMS.
The party recalled that its members and other innocent Nigerians had reported several criminal activities against Mukaila Lamidi (Auxiliary) and members of PMS which till date, has not abated, sequel to Auxiliary’s assumption of proving above the law and his over reliance on the state backing provided him by Governor Seyi Makinde, who allegedly allows him and his boys engage in criminal actions and murders.
