A prominent Legal practitioner in Oyo state and native of Saki in Oke Ogun area of Oyo state has petitioned the Oyo state Resident Electoral Commission.
In the petition dated 2nd day of February, 2024, Barr. Waheed Lawal called the attention of the REC to the invasion of Saki by thugs and mercenaries, who he claimed have beseiged the ancient town of Saki at the instance of the PDP and Governor Seyi Makinde.
It would be recalled that the court of Appeal had ordered a rerun election in some polling units in Saki.
The major contesting political parties are the APC, whose candidates was the winner of the March, 28, 2023 election and the PDP as the main challenger and petitioner before the election Tribunal.
The fears of the APC might not be misplaced, considering the antecedents of the Oyo PDP and Governor Seyi Makinde.
In 2021, during a local Government Election, several lives were lost due to election related violence in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government.
Similarly, prior to the last general election, many lives were lost at Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government when Governor Makinde campaigned in the area.
On both occassions, PDP thugs, sponsored by Governor Makinde and led by the PMS were the aggressors.
