Former Senate Leader and Agba-Akin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic gas explosion that claimed three lives and destroyed valuable property in the Idi-Iroko area of Amuloko, Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday night.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, Senator Folarin described the incident as heartbreaking and avoidable, noting that the loss of innocent lives and the destruction of residential buildings have thrown many families and the entire community into mourning.

“I am deeply saddened by the gas explosion that led to the loss of three precious lives in Idi-Iroko, Amuloko. My heart goes out to the families of the deceased, the injured, and all those whose homes and livelihoods were affected by this devastating incident. May Almighty God grant comfort to the bereaved families and quick recovery to everyone impacted,” Folarin said.

The Senator commended the prompt response of the Oyo State Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, and security agencies whose coordinated efforts helped contain the inferno and prevent further casualties.

He also called for stronger enforcement of safety regulations, stressing the importance of proper approvals, regular inspections, and strict adherence to operational standards for gas facilities and related businesses.

“This tragedy underscores the urgent need for all operators in the gas and petroleum sector to comply fully with safety guidelines issued by the Fire Service, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), and other regulatory bodies. Lives must never be put at risk due to negligence or poor handling of hazardous materials,” he added.

Senator Folarin urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion and ensure that measures are put in place to prevent a recurrence.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.
