The Polytechnic Ibadan Joint Implementation Committee on new National minimum wage, consisting of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic (SSANIP), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the academic staff union have officially reacted to the a memorandum of understanding on new national minimum wage signed between the Oyo State Government and the Joint Action Committee of Oyo State tertiary institutions, describing the move as “Brought in Dead (B.I.D)”.

This is contained in a decision extract jointly signed on Thursday by SSANIP Chairman- Com. Abiodun Abegunde, NASU Chairman- Com. Akande Ibraheem and the representative of academic staff – Mrs. T.M Oyebola.

The News Carrier NG reports that the MOU was signed on January 13, 2021 at the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s conference room.

According to the decision extract made available to the News Carrier NG, those who claimed to be representatives of The Polytechnic, Ibadan are neither the direct beneficiaries or the rightful representatives of the Unions of the purported MOU.

The Polytechnic Ibadan staff unions recalled that the NASU of all the six tertiary Institutions are not parties to the negotiation as deceptively captured in the heading of the purported MOU.  They noted that The Polytechnic, Ibadan Staff Unions are not part of the purported MOU too.

The extract further emphasised that the MOU does not worth the paper on which it is written thus it is neither acceptable nor binding on the workers of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

JOINT IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE

THE POLYTECHNIC, IBADAN

        Date:  14th January, 2021

REASONS WHY THE PURPORTED MOU SIGNED BETWEEN OYO STATE GOVERNMENT AND JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE (ASUP, SSANIP, COEASU, SSUCOEN, AND NASU) OF STATE OWNED TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW MINIMUM WAGE AND CONSEQUENTIAL ADJUSTMENT ON WEDNESDAY, 13TH JANUARY, 2021 IS FRAUDULENT, NULL AND VOID AND OF NO EFFECT

1. Those who claimed to be representatives of The Polytechnic, Ibadan are neither the direct beneficiaries or the rightful representatives of the Unions of the purported MOU.

2. That NASU of all the six Tertiary Institutions are not parties of  the so – called MOU as deceptively captured in the heading of the purported MOU.  The Polytechnic, Ibadan Staff Unions are not part of the purported MOU too.

3. That Ministry of Finance of Oyo State whose responsibilities cover financial matters was left out in the whole process.

4. That the individuals who represented the Unions (ASUP, SSANIP, COEASU and SSUCOEN) did not indicate the Institution being represented.

5. That the individual who signed the purported MOU for COEASU is presently on suspension thus, rendering the purported MOU clearly invalid.

6. That allowing JAC leadership to sign for other Unions who had expressed loss of confidence in the leadership of the contraption is an aberration.

7. That item (vii) of the purported MOU reads “all special and existing allowances should be maintained” but the table presented on behalf of Oyo State Government   has expunged workers existing Rent/Housing Allowance.

8. The leaving out of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology , Ogbomoso and First Technical University, Ibadan suggests that the word “Tertiary” as characterized by the so-called MOU, is a deceit and serving the interest of its authors only.

9. Therefore, the so-called purported MOU is a document that is Brought in Dead (B.I.D).  It does not worth the paper on which it is written thus it is neither acceptable nor binding on the workers of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
