The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has met with the leadership of The Polytechnic Ibadan workers unions over the memorandum of understanding on new national minimum wage signed between the Oyo State Government and the Joint Action Committee of Oyo State tertiary institutions.
The News Carrier NG reliably gathered the governor met the unions leaders in his Ikolaba private residence on Tuesday. The unions comprise of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic (SSANIP), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the academic staff union.
According to a source who is privy to the meeting, “the governor invited the unions to listen to their side of the story. The unions presented their demands through the NASU Chairman – Comrade Akande Ibraheem, SSANIP Chairman – Biodun Abegunde and Nurudeen Akinade, representing the academics”.
This newspaper understands that the governor assured the unions that their demands would be looked into and the State commissioner for education would meet the unions within next week. The unions believe that Engr. Makinde will review the MoU and do the needful.
Recall, the Poly Ibadan Workers’ Unions reject Oyo Govt’s MoU on new national minimum wage, which was signed on January 13, 2021 at the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s conference room.
