Count down to May 15 local Government elections in Oyo State, thousands of members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are currently staging massive protest at the Molete State Secretariat of the party over alleged move by the leadership of the party.
The protesters are from Ibadan South East, Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Ogo-Oluwa and Surulere local Government areas of the State.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs to express their displeasures in the plans, the protesters insisted on the party conducting primary for the candidates to contest the election on the platform of the party
Some of the inscription on their placards read “Ño to imposition of Candidates ”, “we want primary election please”, “We want free and fair primary election, “Don’t open door for mass defection ahead of 2023 Oyo East local government PDP warns” and “Imposition kills party, don’t use it” among others.
Addressing the protesters, the State Chairman of the party – Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha while addressing the angry protesters, urged them to be peaceful and assured that their grievances would be looked into.
