“I have received the shocking news of the attacks on residents of Igangan, Ibarapaland, in the early hours of this morning. I am currently being briefed on the incidents. I urge residents to remain calm as security operatives are now in control of the situation” Governor Seyi Makinde’s reaction to Igangan Massacre.
I read Governor Seyi Makinde’s statement with total disgust because what I perceive is a deliberate act from the Oyo State Government to deceive Nigerians.

It is noteworthy that three days after Your Excellency’s visit to Ibarapa zone, no fewer than 22 people were massacred by unknown gunmen in Igangan town. When addressing the people of Ibarapa last Wednesday, you admitted declared that insecurity in Ibarapaland has been the most challenging but you failed to do the needful, instead you focus on your second term bid.

Your Excellency, all is not well with Oyo State under your reign. Apart from the precious lives that were lost, the Saturday night tragedy also claimed the Palace of the Asigangan and a petroleum station. My Governor, shelve your second term bid, focus on governance.

Your Excellency Sir, the massacre was not a shock as you claimed, your administration was alerted of the invasion but you failed to act accordingly or probably you put your party’s interest above the lives of the people you swore to protect.
Recall, Sahara Reporters, on May 20, 2021, reported that a fulani group raised alarm over plot to carry out terror attacks in Oyo State.
The report reads:
A nameless Fulani group said to be a faction of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo state on Thursday alleged of planned terror attacks in the state.

The group, through its Chairman, Umar Dogo and Secretary, Joni Yayi, alleged that the sons of the embattled Seriki Fulani of Igangan, Seriki Salihu Abdulkadir, who fled the state following an ultimatum given by Sunday Igboho in January, were behind the planned terror attacks.

The group also alleged that the sons of the embattled Seriki Fulani have been training bandits in the state.

The group called the attention of the Oyo State Government, security agents, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, and community leaders in the state to the security threat.

Dogo and Yayi said the youths are strategising, harbouring criminals, and recruiting bandits, kidnappers, and robbers to carry out all kinds of criminal activities in the state.

According to a statement signed by the duo, criminals are being recruited to terrorise the people in the state.

The group said out of the eight people fingered in the sinister plot, three of them are biological sons of the embattled Seriki Fulani.

Abdulkadir left the state recently after his house and cars were burnt by youths in Igangan over his alleged involvement in kidnapping and banditry.

The statement identified the following people as part of the plot: Maman Saliu, Ibrahim Saliu, and Aliu Saliu (who are presently in Ilorin, Kwara State). The three are said to be the sons of the embattled Seriki Fulani.

Others include Mamudu Abagu (from Iganna); Alhaji Mumini, immediate past Chairman of Meyetti Allah (Abeokuta branch); Hajia Aminat (from Oyo) and Alhaji Lawal Galadima, also from Oyo.

The statement reads in part, “The aforementioned people, our feeler from the Fulani community in Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa hinted that they were dissatisfied over the plan to remove the embattled Serkin Fulani Alhaji Abdulkadir Saliu by some Fulanis in Oyo state.

“Therefore their plans, if successful, may lead to ethnic conflicts that can lead to civil unrest and breakdown of law and order. The source therefore called on the Oyo state government to beam its searchlight henceforth on Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun in particular and Oyo state in general as well as place aforementioned names on their watchlist.”
With the above report, I am wondering where the shock for Governor Makinde is coming from. It is highly sardonic that this government keeps telling lies on daily basis to deceive the good people of Oyo State. This present administration has proven beyond reasonable doubt that she does not have the wherewithal to combat the insecurities ravaging the state, instead the governor keeps playing blame game and keep pushing everything to the Federal Government.
It is expected of a serious Government to work on all the available security reports at her disposal to stop all forms of security threat coming but this government having been duly informed about the attack kept mute and allowed the perpetrators to carry out their evil plans successfully.
Tears rolled out my face seeing the gory pictures and videos of how people were massacred, Asigangan and a petroleum station razed houses, yet all what this Government could come up with is a mere sympathetic statements full of deceit.
It is high time Governor Seyi Makinde heightened up the security in the state, call for a stakeholders meeting and find a workable solutions to the current menace the state is facing. Let His Excellency put the interest of us all first before his party’s interest because the way this Government is shielding the criminal elements is appalling and worrisome.
