Governor Seyi Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and youths on the platform of the ruling party on Saturday staged “Buhari Must Go” protests in Oyo State to commemorate June 12 Democracy Day.
Engr. Makinde alongside top officials of his government joined the protest at Bodija area of Ibadan to cheer and address the protesters.
The Governor commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct reminding them that it is their right to call their government to question when things are not done the way it should.
Findings by the News Carrier NG revealed that most of the “Buhari Must Go” and “June 12” protesters are members of the ruling PDP.
A competent source said that all the youth leaders of PDP in the 11 LGAs of Ibadan were given secret directive to mobilise their subordinates with a view to staging a protest in their jurisdictions.
Major markets and shops in many parts of Oyo State were closed as traders and residents stayed back home for the fear of escalation of the protests.
The News Carrier NG witnessed protesters carrying placards with inscriptions #BuhariMustGo, #Jund12, #YorubaNation among other anti-govt messages.
Heavy security presence was noticed in major parts of the city with a combined team of security operatives including men of the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp and Amotekun corps stationed across strategic places in the capital city.
Of the 36 Governors of the federation, the News Carrier NG understands that only Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State openly declared support for the “Buhari Must Go” and “June 12” protests.
Recall, Governor Seyi Makinde financed and participated in the bloody #EndSARS protests in Oyo State, which led to gruesome killings of some police officers, burning of police stations, looting of shops and among other heinous crimes committed.
