In a bid to support and encourage women at all fronts to participate in the electoral process, the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) has approved free nomination forms for all female aspirants in the party.
This was contained in a statement issues on Thursday by the party’s National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu.
According to Edu, the decision was reached after the NWC meeting held on Wednesday.
Edu, who expressed satisfaction, stated that APC has taken bold steps to mainstream women and remove barriers to their seeking elective offices.
“Female aspirants would no longer complain of funds to purchase nomination forms, it’s free!” She said.
The National Women Leader noted that it had always been on her programme to ensure and facilitate increased women participation in the electoral process, adding that although funding sets some women back, this new initiative by the party which is first of its kind by a political party would endear more women to the APC fold.
Edu, who is a former Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, thanked the party’s chairman,Adamu, and other excos for making her dream a reality.
“This, no doubt would awaken the consciousness of females in the party and encourage more women to come out and vie for more political positions,” she added.
She, however, said terms and conditions will apply.
