The Ibadan-based human rights lawyer, Comrade Femi Aborisade, has written the leadership of Ibadan Solidarity Group (ISG) , Iyaganku Quarters, Ibadan, over the purported termination of membership of Alhaji Dauda Olayemi Sarumoh.

In a letter sighted by journalists, Aborisade, who is the Managing Partner of ABOPE Chambers, said the said Alhaji Sarumoh is the client of the firm.

In the letter is titled:”PURPORTED TERMINATION OF ALHAJI DAUDA OLAYEMI SARUMOH’s MEMBERSHIP OF IBADAN SOLIDARITY GROUP (ISG)”.

Aborisade said , “Our Client has been a member of the Ibadan Solidarity Group (ISG) for over 18 years, and, indeed, he is a former Chief Whip of the Group”.

The firebrand lawyer explained : “The crux of the brief of our Client is that at the 20th February 2022 meeting of the Group, held at the Club House, Iyaganku Quarters, Ibadan, his membership of the Group was purportedly terminated by the President, without any just cause and without being afforded fair hearing as guaranteed in the Constitution of the Group.

“Indeed, by the brief of our Client, he was unjustly and unfairly removed from the Ibadan Solidarity Group’s WhatsApp Platform on 25th January 2022, without notice of the reason(s) for the embarrassing action.

“It is the further brief of our Client that to his utter chagrin, he was denied access to the Group’s Club House on 24th February 2022 by one Mr. Oni, a security guard, who claimed to be acting on the instructions of the President of the Group, Mr. Ayo Afolabi. The same scenario played out on 1st March 2022 when one Mr. Henrique, another security guard of the Group, refused our Client entry to the Club House.

“It is the contention of Our Client that the purported termination of his membership of the Group and denial of access to the Group’s Club House are in patent violation of the express provisions of the Group’s Constitution”.

After quoting some relevant sections of laws, Aborisade demanded immediate restoration of the membership of Alhaji Sarumoh into the Association, resubscription to the Group’s WhatsApp platform, and unrestricted access to the Group’s Club House.

He also demanded a written apology should be tendered to, “Our Client forthwith and published in the Group’s Whatsapp Platform, for the embarrassment and social exclusion he has suffered”.

The activist emphasized that if those demands are not fully met within seven days of your receipt of the formal letter, he would take a legal action against the association.

He said: “We have the brief of our Client to demand, and we hereby demand that; all the disciplinary actions (i.e. deprivation of access to the Group’s Club House, removal from the Group’s Whatsapp Platform and membership termination) taken against Our Client should be rescinded forthwith.

“A written apology should be tendered to Our Client forthwith and published in the Group’s Whatsapp Platform, for the embarrassment and social exclusion he has suffered.

“Immediate full restoration of all membership rights and privileges of Our Client as a bona fide member of ISG.

“Take Notice that where the demands above are not fully met within seven days of your receipt of this formal letter, we shall have no option but to give full effect to the further brief of Our Client to seek redress in the Court of law with requisite jurisdiction”.
