No fewer than 300 women nominated by Senator Teslim Folarin, on Thursday, received N20,000 cash each to uplift their socio-economic status as part of the Federal Government’s National Social Safety Net Project (NASSP).

According to Oloye Folarin’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Com. YSO Olaniyi, the beneficiaries were selected from the eleven local government areas of Oyo Central Senatorial District.

The Special Cash Grant for Rural Women programme was introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s social inclusion and poverty reduction agenda, including the realisation of the national aspiration of lifting 100million Nigerians out of poverty in 10years.”

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Social Development and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq disclosed that the programme was designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in rural Nigeria. A grant of N20,000 is being disbursed to over 150,000 poor rural women across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. The grant is expected to increase access to financial capital required for economic activities.

She noted that a total number of 5,280 beneficiaries from Oyo State have been captured. The cash distributions took place at the Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Agodi Secretariat Ibadan.

Oloye Folarin while applauding President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government’s various social intervention programmes, urged the beneficiaries to use the resources judiciously for the purpose it was meant for, assuring that he would continue to facilitate dividends of democracy to Oyo Central Senatorial District and Oyo State at large.
