Oyo South Senatorial hopeful, Prince Kola Asatola-Asanike has revealed he is motivated to be a lawmaker by the desire to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich in society.

According to him, the widening gap between the poor and the rich is responsible for the poverty among the people as the elite and the political class have failed the masses.

Asanike, while speaking on a Radio Program in Ibadan, monitored by Ametrocopy, said Nigeria as a country needs laws that will bring the poor out of the doldrums of poverty and make basic amenities accessible for the ordinary man.

He berated the situation where the poor and the rich are taxed equally in the provision of amenities.

‘We need laws that will be tailored towards bringing out the poor from poverty, that is my focus’, Asanike stated.

‘There should be by now, a way to start developing the rural areas, let them feel a sense of belonging’, he noted.

Earlier on the program, Kola Asatola-Asanike, a Seasoned Financial expert and Information Technology Consultant, charged the youths to take their destinies into their hands and join mainstream politics.

‘I will use the opportunity to encourage the youths, I know you have the capacity. If you look at what is happening in Nigeria and in fact around the world, you will see that Nigerian Youths are doing exceptionally well. I so much believe in Nigerian youths. We have to be brave and create a way where there is no way. I am not saying we should fight the leaders but challenge’, he said.

On the bill for the Independent Candidacy passed by the lawmakers recently, Prince Asanike said it will go a long way in encouraging the youths to fully participate in politics as it will de-emphasize money and godfatherism in Nigerian politics.

‘In that case, you won’t have to belong to any political party, you don’t need to have a godfather anywhere, the youths can come in without millions of naira and people will be able to assess you based on your abilities and not your pocket’, he concluded.
