The Staff Unions of The Polytechnic Ibadan have rejected January salary paid by the Oyo State Government, describing it as amputated salary structure forced on all the state-owned tertiary institutions. The Unions maintained that its strike action, which hinges on full implementation of minimum wage and remover of illegal platinum consultant is very much on-going.

This is contained in a press statement jointly signed on Thursday by SSANIP Chairman- Com. Abiodun Abegunde, NASU Chairman- Com. Akande Ibraheem and the representative of academic staff – Mrs. T.M Oyebola.

The News Carrier NG reports that the MOU was signed on January 13, 2021 at the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s conference room. According to the unions, those who claimed to be representatives of The Polytechnic, Ibadan are neither the direct beneficiaries or the rightful representatives of the Unions of the purported MOU.

The unions after the emergency meeting of the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) on Thursday, expressed their displeasure to the Governing Council and Management on the salary structure used for the payment of January, 2021 salary.

“The amputated salary structure paid indicates that our Housing  Allowance has been removed which was majorly the basis for rejection of the salary structure”

“The Polytechnic, Ibadan staff unions disassociate itself from the payment of salary with the Oyo State Salary Table and MOU because we are not party to the agreement that led to the payment”

The full statement reads:

AMPUTATED SALARY STRUCTURE FORCED ON THE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
IN OYO STATE

Staff Unions of The Polytechnic, Ibadan at the emergency meeting of the Joint  Implementation Committee (JIC) on Thursday, 28th January, 2021,
resolved as follows:

That the workers show their displeasure to the Governing Council and Management on the salary structure used for the payment of January, 2021 salary.
That the workers of The Polytechnic, Ibadan had rejected the purported Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in one of its letter dated 14th January, 2021.
That the amputated salary structure paid indicates that our Housing  Allowance has been removed which was majorly the basis for rejection of the salary structure.
That The Polytechnic, Ibadan staff unions disassociate itself from the payment of salary with the Oyo State Salary Table and MOU because we are not party to the agreement that led to the payment.

The Union’s strike action which hinges on Full Implementation of Minimum Wage and Remover of Illegal Platinum Consultant is very much on-going.
